What does it take to believe? For some people, it takes facts or seeing it for yourself. And then for others, all it takes is hearing from the person who delivered the message.
What do you believe right now? Who do you believe? Do you believe the news? Do you believe the posts on Facebook or Instagram? Do you believe the gossip in the office or at church?
What about what God says in the Bible…do you believe it? Do you read the words of Jesus and follow them, or do you consider them on the same level as the other noise you filter out.
Jesus has a message for you and me right now, and it is a message worth listening to. In John 3:16-18 Jesus said: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
Did you hear that? God loves us. God gave His Son for our eternal life. God repeats it again: God gave His Son to save us. God made a way for us not to be judged by what we do or don’t do. What’s so beautiful about this is that God only asks us to believe Him and to believe His Son, and our belief in Him assures our present and future happiness and salvation.
Psalm 27:1 says that the Lord is our light and salvation, and we have nothing to fear. The Lord is our stronghold, and we don’t need to be afraid. Could it be that the fear we have comes from not believing in the only One who can take our fear away?
Do you believe that God loves you, I mean really love you? Do you believe that He gave up His Son to pay your debt for your selfish, sinful deceit? Do you believe that believing in Jesus is the way to eternal life? Do you believe that Jesus stands before you so you are not judged, nor left on your own to stand alone, guilty of your past?
Take just a moment to think about the difference your life would be if you just believed that you are loved and cared for. You are not alone. You can’t do it alone. Your fear of the future could be gone. Your remorse for the past would be gone. Your anxiety about today would be gone. Your need for comfort, love, peace, and joy would be satisfied. Your inner longing for something more would be met. You could finally rest, even though situations around you seem totally out of control.
Today, give believing a try. Commit to reading God’s Word to find out what He is about. Read it every day. Listen for the deeper meaning that He has for you. Hear Him speak to you personally as His Words come to life. Jesus came so you could have life, and to live it abundantly for Him. Because God loved you, He wanted you to know the Truth, and the Truth in Jesus has set you free. Believe it!
