JESUS SAID: My Grace Is Sufficient

“And he said unto me, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness'” (2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV). That’s what Jesus said.

Now, using the 6-step SWEET SPOT WITH GOD framework for a whole experience with God, let’s answer the following questions.

STEP 1: MENTAL – What key words stand out and what is going on? Maybe the following words stand out: grace, sufficient, strength, perfect, and weakness. What this scripture is saying is that God’s grace is sufficient as we live each day, and God’s strength is perfectly completed in our weakness. It appears that this scripture is like an equation for sufficiency and completeness. This knowledge is important to know as we move forward in the process of applying this scripture to your lives.

In preparation for the next step, let’s read the same scripture again, but this time in the New International Version (NIV).

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness'” (2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV).

STEP 2: EMOTIONAL – What is my reaction or emotional response to this scripture? Notice the personal phrase “he said to me”, the personal pronoun of “you”, and the use of the word “power” instead of “strength”. It may seem almost too good to be true from our human perspective, but this scripture is talking directly to me, and it is comforting. Can you hear God saying this to you? God’s strength instead of your weakness. Sufficiency from His Grace instead of your insufficiency. What other reactions do you have?

STEP 3: SPIRITUAL – What is God saying? Based on what you have read so far, could you say that God is saying in this scripture that His grace—the good granted to us even though we did not earn or merit it—is sufficient? Could we also say that we are hearing that we are made perfect—actually made complete—because His strength replaces our weakness and inadequacies.

Let’s prepare for the next step by reading the scripture one more time in The Message version: “My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9 MSG).

STEP 4: PHYSICAL – What is God saying to me personally? When something is “enough” it’s enough. Nothing more is needed. That’s what God’s Grace is to us. Additionally, God’s strength comes to fruition when we come to Him in our weakness. If God’s grace is sufficient and His strength is made perfect in my weakness, would coming to Him in our weakness actually be what He knows we need?

STEP 5: SOCIAL – What would happen in my life and relationships if I were to apply what I am hearing God say? How can I share what God is saying to me? Jesus’ twist on living is a whole new way of understanding our life experience. Doing life God’s way actually seems easier than fighting and striving every day on my own. What would happen if, during the rest of the year, we actually let God quiet us and complete us as we rely on Him for everything? We would actually have something to talk about, and something our friends would want themselves.

STEP 6: PRAYER CONNECTION – Talk to God in prayer about His message to you through this scripture.

Dear God,
I thank you for this message today.
I ask you for your Grace.
I know now that all I need is You.
As I bring you the real me in my weakness,
may Your Strength come alive in me.
I live today knowing I am complete in You.
Let this knowledge of you change me on the inside
so others can see that I am different because of You.
Amen.
